Types of Viral Fever – Causes & Treatments https://omnihospitals.in/types-of-viral-fever-causes-treatments/ https://omnihospitals.in/types-of-viral-fever-causes-treatments/#respond Tue, 01 Nov 2022 09:46:06 +0000 https://omnihospitals.in/?p=13560 Types-of-Viral-Fever

A viral infection that is produced and caused by climate change and other environmental exposures leads to viral fever during the monsoon season. Your body's natural temperature increases when you have the flu, a cold, and viral fever. Viral infection also results in viral fever, which is another condition that is not a disease. Viral fever is usually misdiagnosed and neglected, which causes it to worsen and become a chronic, dangerous illness. Your body's immunological reaction to germs and viruses that cause sickness, indicates fever. When your immune system notices the presence of such foreign bodies inside your body, it sets off an immunological reaction that raises your body's temperature. The majority of viral fever duration is 3 to 4 days, although others only last 1 day, or others like the fever brought on by dengue fever, can persist up to 10 days or more. We measure the temperatures in the mouth, rectum, and middle ear in both adults and children. Viral fever is present if the oral, rectal, or ear temperatures are more than 100.4°F (38.0°C).

Types of Viral Fever

Viral fevers can be categorized into the following groups according to the region they affect:

Respiratory Viral Fever:

A respiratory viral illness occurs when a virus infects your respiratory tract, either its upper or lower section. Some typical viral respiratory infections include:
 • Influenza and cold
 • Coryza
 • Laryngitis with viral bronchitis
 • Adenovirus and rhinovirus infection
 • Infection with the para influenza virus
 • Infection with the respiratory syncytial virus
 • Measles
This includes the viral outbreak that is presently wreaking havoc throughout the globe, SARS-Cov-19, which was brought on by a brand-new coronavirus.

Viral Enteritis

Your digestive tract is impacted by this virus infection. Stomach flu is another name for gastro-intestinal viral fever. Gastroenteritis, a medical ailment, is frequently the result. Some typical gastrointestinal viral infections include the infection with rotavirus, adenovirus, Norovirus, and Astrovirus.

Exanthemata Viral Fever

Exanthematous viral infections are those that not only cause a fever but also have dermatological symptoms. These infections frequently result in rashes and apparent skin eruptions that remain for days until they go away and mend through the production of scabs. Although they are not just confined to children, these illnesses primarily affect them.

Haemorrhagic Viral Fever:

Haemorrhagic viruses are a class of viruses that can induce circumstances that are potentially fatal by causing bleeding. They often cause your body temperature to increase significantly. Your blood arteries are impacted by this sort of illness, and platelets cause internal bleeding.

Neurologic Viral Fever

Neurotropic viruses are those that target the central nervous system particularly and cause neurological illnesses. The virus often enters your circulation before traveling to your brain or spinal cord. Viral infections that are acute and persistent are further divided into neurological viral disorders. These were the major viral fever types, now let us get to the symptoms of the same.

Viral Fever Symptoms

The following are some viral fever symptoms that you should be aware of:
 • Joint and muscle pains
 • Headache
 • Fatigue
 • Throat pain
 • Clogged nose
 • A rise in body temperature of roughly 104 degrees.
 • Facial swelling
 • Dehydration
 • Recurring chills
 • Having red eyes
 • Rash skin
 • Lack of appetite

Causes of Viral Fevers

You get a fever when your body's immune system responds to outside infections. Your body's immune system feels the need to respond to the dangerous organisms like bacteria and viruses that enter your body. When this activity causes the same, the body's temperature surges. However, these are the primary causes of viral fever:
 • Inhalation of Air Droplets: By conversing, sneezing, or coughing close to you without covering their face, an infected individual can distribute airborne droplets of their virus. It can cause an infection if breathed in.
 • Intake of Food: If you ingest tainted food, you run the risk of getting sick. Foods can carry viruses, therefore eating them puts you at risk of contracting them.
 • Mosquito Bite: Infestations of illnesses like malaria and dengue occur during the monsoon because this is the period of the year when mosquitoes spawn on standing water and proliferate. Additionally, mosquito bites might result in viral fevers.
 • Exchange of Bodily Fluids: Blood transfusions and getting pricked by an infected needle can both lead to the acquisition of infections such as viral fever, hepatitis B, and HIV. Additionally, they may be sexually transmitted.

Treatment for Viral Fevers

Viral fevers often don't need any special medical attention. They are not responsive to antibiotics, as opposed to bacterial illnesses. To find out if you have a bacterial infection, your doctor can advise having a test done on your throat. If the tests are negative, they could advise doing more tests before starting viral fever medication, such as blood, sputum, or urine. The kind of viral infection and the severity of the symptoms affect viral fever therapy. For low-grade viral fever, physicians often try to recommend medications. Treatments for muscular pains, weariness, diarrhea, etc. include taking lukewarm baths and consuming electrolyte solutions.
 • Your healthcare practitioner may suggest nonprescription medicine if you have a high fever or a temperature that is uncomfortable. Take these medications as prescribed by your doctor. Be cautious and do not consume these in excessive amounts. Acute overdoses can be life-threatening, and high doses or prolonged usage of these medications may harm the liver or kidneys.
 • Never administer aspirin to youngsters since it may induce Reye's syndrome, which is a rare yet potentially life-threatening illness.
 • You may still have a moderate fever even though these drugs typically reduce your body temperature. The drug may take up to two hours to start working. Your doctor may advise you to take various drugs as per your condition.
 • The signs and symptoms, including fever, may be minimized by treating the underlying cause. For testing and treatment, infants, especially those under two months old, might be admitted to the healthcare facility or hospital. When a baby is this young, a fever may be a sign of a dangerous illness that needs intravenous (IV) treatment and constant observation.
 • A fever of unknown origin is often referred to when it persists for longer than three weeks, whether continuously or intermittently, and has no obvious explanation. For additional examinations and testing in these situations, you might need to consult a specialist in one or more surgical fields.
Being clean and following hygienic habits is the most crucial preventative step to ward against viral fever. Usually, a slight fever is nothing to panic about, but if you experience issues like a persistent high fever as well as other related viral fever symptoms, visit your doctor without any delay. ]]>

Nutrition During Dialysis https://omnihospitals.in/nutrition-during-dialysis/ https://omnihospitals.in/nutrition-during-dialysis/#respond Mon, 17 Oct 2022 14:05:37 +0000 https://omnihospitals.in/?p=13348 Nutrition-During-Dialysis

When the kidneys fail to operate normally, dialysis is used to eliminate waste materials and excess fluid from the blood. In the event of permanent kidney failure, often known as end stage renal disease, hemodialysis or in common terms called dialysis, a procedure where an external machine functions as a replacement for a kidney (ESRD) is employed. Its duties include covering for renal processes, such as filtering trash, salts, and even excess poisons in the blood. This eventually supports the patient to lead a healthy lifestyle. When is one required to undergo dialysis – The patient is suggested to undergo dialysis under 2 major conditions which are as follows.
 • Situations where the complete kidney is damaged or chronic kidney failure. This could happen due to various medical reasons, overdose of wrong medication, bad lifestyle or during an event of an accident/injury on the kidneys.
 • To remove toxins, poisons, and medications from the body.

But what causes the kidneys to stop functioning in the initial place?

Kidneys can stop functioning over a period of time by gradually having a depletion in its efficiency to filter out toxins. This could be a result of various factors
 • Hypertension
 • High amounts of blood sugar
 • Glomerulonephritis, a medical word for inflammation of the kidneys
 • Polycystic kidney disease (PKD), or the development of kidney cysts
 • Blood vessel inflammation
 • Accidents or renal injuries
 • Heart attack

Dialysis is of two forms:

 1. Hemodialysis
 2. Peritoneal dialysis.
Depending upon the severity of the kidney’s problem your doctor would suggest either of the two forms of dialysis to be performed.

Hemodialysis

In this form, an external machine known as a dialyzer is used for the filtration of blood by connecting 2 needles into the fistula or a graft which is a connection between an artery and vein is made. The dialyzer contains many fibers and a dialysate, filters out the waste and sends the filtered blood into the patient’s body through the second needle. Post the session the needles/ tubes are safely removed and the patient is discharged.

Peritoneal Dialysis

Here, As the blood is not transmitted to any external machine or source, the peritoneal lining of the abdomen plays a crucial part in this process of filtering. In order to allow the dialysate to pass through the abdomen, a catheter is placed there through the region surrounding the belly button. Then a specific liquid called dialysate is injected into the abdomen. All of the toxins and other waste products in the blood are eventually drained into the dialysate. In a special bag linked to the other end, this is then collected and disposed of. In some special cases, a central venous catheter is placed into the major vein in the pelvis region or neck area in the event of an emergency dialysis procedure. After the procedure, the catheter (a small, flexible tubular structure) is removed carefully.

Nutrition During Dialysis

Since patients undergoing dialysis tend to get exhausted and feel fatigued, nutrition plays a key aspect in their diet for faster recovery. Your choices about what to eat and drink while on hemodialysis can make a difference in how you feel and can make your treatments work better. Between dialysis treatment sessions, wastes can build up in your blood and make you sick. You can reduce waste buildup by controlling what you eat and drink. Some foods cause waste to build up quickly between your dialysis sessions. If your blood contains too much waste, your kidney treatment session may not remove them all. For this, there are renal dieticians. They are dietitians who are specialized in nutrition and diet for persons with kidney diseases. A renal dietician can work closely with the patient and can prepare a curated diet for their patient depending upon their kidney issue. They eventually help the patient to be as healthy as possible. Most hemodialysis patients are advised to consume high-quality protein since it results in less waste that needs to be removed during process. The best sources of protein include meat, chicken, fish, and eggs. It is to be noted that processed meat and canned foods must be avoided as much as possible as they contain high amounts of phosphorus and sodium. Additionally, throughout the dialysis procedure, nutrients including glucose, amino acids, proteins, and vitamins are lost. Even with individuals on pre-dialysis, careful nutritional control is required. Finally the dietician would prepare a chart which has the type of food and the ounces of it that one is supposed to have at different hours of the day. It also includes the diet to maintain before and after the process of dialysis. When diet is the concern, it is impossible to ignore water and its consumption. As a common assumption that water is tremendously vital for the human body but there’s a catch in the case of patients undergoing. Patients are recommended to consume only up to 32 ounces of 940ml of water per day. The renal dietician would give ways to control and manage one's thirst. Sugar free foods that help to manage thirst are recommended between the treatment of dialysis. Apart from the physical food and water, another vital aspect to keep in mind is to quit any form of intoxication such as alcohol and smoking. The next is to be stress free as stress also plays an equally effective role in maintaining health.]]>

The Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at OMNI RK is the best in Andhra Pradesh in terms of design, medical infrastructure, equipment and quality of care. This 30 bedded NICU has world-class warmers, ventilators, phototherapy units and other equipment. It has separate cubicles for inborn, outborn and septic babies. What sets the NICU apart is the fact that it offers facilities which very few health care centres in India are equipped with.

Dr K Seshagiri, the best neonatologist in Vizag who has completed his DM Neonatology from the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh. He is the first neonatologist of Visakhapatnam and has more than 10 years of post DM experience and is Chief Neonatologist of our Department of Neonatology. Survival rates in our NICU are more than 90% because of strict asepsis protocols by trained Nurses, good infrastructure and dedicated registrars of our department.

Especially for gynaecologists who are planning premature deliveries because of maternal and fetal indications and high-risk cases, they can shift the mothers to our hospital admit under their care and utilise our facilities (in utero transfer), because it is very difficult to shift the sick preterm babies safely.
